Getting Started

School of Swimming is open early spring to late fall but accepts new registrations throughout the year.

School of Swimming serves families in two locations:

  • SAN MARCO
  • SOUTHSIDE/OLD ST. AUGUSTINE RD.

Families can visit our Registration Page and a member of our team will reach out promptly.

Parents can notify our staff by phone, text or email 24+ hours in advance and we will do our best to accommodate your schedule.  No guarantees.

If you have questions, please ask during your child’s lesson or contact us by email. We want you to have the information you need without infringing on the next child’s lesson.

Swim Lessons

School of Swimming offers private lessons for children and adults.

Infants and young children swim for 20 minutes. Swim lessons for older children and young adults are recommended to be 30-40 minutes.

Most families choose to have lessons twice per week, however, we are able to customize your schedule for once a week, or three or four times a week.

Children may eat 1 hour prior to lessons. Babies should have as little as possible. Children that are 3 years and older may have a small carbohydrate snack and a clear drink.

Suggested foods include: pretzels, dry cereal (cheerios, rice chex), soda crackers, pureed fruits, juices, gatorade, water.

We recommend avoiding the following foods prior to your swim lesson: dairy, eggs, meat, whole fruit and peanut butter.

Children should arrive with following things:

  1. A properly fitting bathing suit
  2. A swim diaper for children under the age of 3.
  3. A towel for after their lesson

Parents are required to stay for the duration of the lesson.

Toddlers, 3 years and under, must wear a swim diaper with very snug elasticized legs.

We recommend parents bring extra diapers to their swim lesson.

School of Swimming is certified to teach all swim levels. We are happy to serve swimmers who have no experience, as well as, teaching all advanced strokes.  Our team can also help those preparing for swim team.

Swimmers may wear goggles during their lesson.  During the swim course, swimmers will also learn to swim without their goggles to prepare for any potential water accident.

Children do not wear floats or PFDs during swim lessons.  School of Swimming provides constant instructor assistance and has it’s own equipment to assist in the learning process.

Parents must take their belongings home after their lesson. We ask that you don’t leave any trash behind including diapers.

Once the swim lesson is over, you are asked to leave promptly.  Most pools have parking constraints and it is appreciated that you follow this rule.

Unless otherwise indicated, there are no bathroom facilities available.  Please use the bathroom before you come.

School of Swimming offers optional parent in-water training to assist in your practice at home.

Swimming is a motor skill. Practice is how your child learns and retains their swimming and safety skills especially when your child is very young. So have fun practicing – a lot!

Billing

You pay for swim lessons at the beginning of each session and partial sessions will be prorated.

8-20 minute private lessons: Check, cash, credit* or VENMO app on phone

8 – 30 minute private lessons: Check, cash, credit* or VENMO app on phone

*There is a service fee if lessons are paid with a credit card

Any monies pre-paid for unused swim lessons will be refunded or held on credit.  This does not include lessons forfeited by same day cancellations or no-shows. Registration fees are not refundable.

Cancellations

You may withdraw your child from swim lessons at any time.  It is appreciated if advance notice is given so your swim time may be utilized for another swimmer.

We ask that you arrive on time for your lesson. We want each child to receive all of their lesson time. If you arrive late, we can only give you the remainder of your lesson time.

Lessons are reserved times with your instructor. You are paying for your child’s place in their class, not their attendance. A missed/no-show is forfeit, no exceptions.

If your child is sick and you notify us 24 hours in advance, we will offer a makeup at our convenience.   A missed makeup class is forfeit.

Please inform us of vacations 2 or more weeks in advance so we can take your child off the schedule while you are away; your time slot will go to another swimmer.

We will put your child back into lessons when you return as soon as a similar time slot becomes available. There is no charge for vacation days if pre-booked. (“Vacation” refers to whole weeks, not a day here & there).

We give you a credit for your lesson if we cancel due to weather or holidays. Please do not assume your lesson is canceled if it is raining. You will receive a text/cell phone call to advise you of cancellation.  If you choose to no-show, the class is forfeit.

Parents are responsible for notifying of any changes in their child’s medical history. We ask that you do not bring a child with a fever to class.

A child should be 24 hours fever-free before returning to class. If you are not sure whether to come, call, text or email.
